Masters Games Europe 2013

In August I competed in the World Master's games in Turin Italy finishing in the middle of the field in the 800 metres, 1,500 metres and 5,000 metres. After the games I made several climbs in the Italian Alps. The first ascent was a sucessful climb to the summit of 13,323 foot high Gran Paradiso, Italy's higheat non frontier peak. An ascent of Mount Blanc had been my next goal. However the day before I was due to make the ascent an avalanche critically injured a guide and tragically killed both of his clients. Both the guide and myself decided it was not worth the risk of spending several hours traversing slopes that were likely to avalanche in other places. Safety is always infinitely more important than the summit.
